Hello From Japan!
A little recap of my first days in ise!
Hello Matcha Freaks
I am writing to you from Kyoto, where I have been staying for the past few days after spending time with our production partners in Ise and Yokkaichi City!
It has been a whirlwind of travel and brand new experiences. The highlight was being able to spend time with Gen, our business partner, and his family.
They run the company all together and have for three generations. They are passionate small business owners who have such loyalty to the dozens of small farmers they support and such passion for the highest quality tea that they can produce. The entire family is utterly inspiring and I feel so lucky to have them as my key business partners in this venture.
We tasted tea, toured the production facility, and discussed business goals for the upcoming year. I witnessed hojicha being fire-roasted… the best smell 🤤. I met a few of the tea plants that provide leaves for our matcha 💚.
We didn't spend too much time in the fields. The harvest season does not start until mid-to-late April, so the plants sleep during the winter and build up their mineral content, which we taste in the first flush pluck in ceremonial matcha. Hellooo umami!
Gen took me to the top of a stunning mountain to eat Japanese curry. We arrived there via Gondola. It blew my mind. I am going to let the pictures speak with this one… because there are no words to describe the beauty. All I have to say, is you should probably go visit Japan.
It was a wonderful first day!
I will write more about the rest of the trip in a future post, but I wanted to remind you all that we are on break until Monday, January 27th!
Our Winter Break Sale is going until Sunday, the 26th!
