This is a limited unlabeled run of our brand-new ceremonial grade matcha sourced from our exclusive producers in Japan.

We work with one production house located in Ise, Japan that has been run by the same family since 1945. The relationships and comprehensive network of farmers that use this production house spans generations and it shows. Matcha this good and with this depth of flavor is something that cannot be rushed or faked.

Ise Bay is nestled on the southern central coast of Japan and the tea produced here is a reflection of the environment and intentionality of its farmers. Tea production in Mie Prefecture, the home of Ise, started at the end of the 9th century and the traditions of dedication and love for these plants have led to a quality of product that is incomparable.

This ceremonial matcha is the perfect example of the time, land, and people from which it comes.

It tastes of the freshness of the sea with a depth of umami that is pure without any harsh tannin. It is naturally milky and will barely need anything else to make the drinking experience complete.

We will be re-releasing it in the new year with branding and a label, but we got this in house and wanted to get it to you freaks ASAP… despite being naked. When she comes back in 2025 dressed in designer labels and a rad tin, ceremonial will be slightly pricier. So enjoy the lil discount while you can and try one of the best matchas we have ever, seriously EVER tasted.

What is the difference between ceremonial and premium matcha?

Ceremonial differs from premium in many ways and every growing region has different standards of flavor and product. The primary differences are between our Ise matchas are:

Seasonal Growing Differences: Tea leaves harvested earlier in the season, right after winter, have a higher concentration of nutrients gained from the soil. These minerals make for a more flavorful, dynamic tea leaf. Its where we get the natural sweetness and umami with less tannin. The tannin can be the more bitter flavor found in harvests later on in the season,
Production Process: Ceremonial leaves are shaded for a longer time period which leads to higher chlorophyll production, caffeine levels, l theanine, and natural sugars being pulled from the soil. All of these factors lead to a brighter, tastier leaf.
Texture: Ceremonial is a finer powder than the premium which results in a pure velvet sip.

With the a shorter window for harvest combined with the time and care put into the leaves during production, Ceremonial has a higher price point. It is really important to us at Matcha Freak that our products remain accessible to most, even the fancier ones.
